With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert "Tyler" Davidson, who left us on June 19, 2024, his 38th birthday, to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Tyler was born on June 19, 1986, to his mother, Dawn (Chapman) Baros, and father, Steven Davidson. He lived a life of dedication, service, sacrifice, inspiration, and most of all, love.
Tyler was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas where he attended Castle Hills First Baptist School, Eisenhower Middle School, and Churchill High School. He had a brilliant mind and an unparalleled drive to contribute significantly to this world. He graduated from Churchill in 2004 at the top of his class while also earning varsity letters in both football and track. He continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin in the McCombs School of Business, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and graduated with honors in 2008.
He was a lifelong and devoted Texas Longhorn and loved cheering on his team every football season. Immediately following graduation, he began working in the finance arena for TransPecos Bank; however, he soon decided that his contribution to this world was far greater, and he accepted his God-given call to join the Armed Forces by enlisting in the United States Navy in 2011.
Tyler reported to Navy Boot Camp at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in October 2011. Upon completion of boot camp, Tyler was stationed in Everett, WA where he was assigned to the USS Nimitz (CVN 68). While onboard the USS Nimitz, he served on the ship's flight deck with the Crash and Salvage Crew- responsible for fighting fires and providing mass casualty response. During his deployment, Tyler began writing poems and eventually published a book of poetry titled, "A Convenient Dilemma - The Poetic Thoughts of a United States Sailor". It was published in April 2014 and contains his introspective thoughts on military life aboard a naval ship at sea. As was characteristic of Tyler, his tireless desire to achieve never waned and he was inspired to pursue a commissioning as a Naval Officer. He received notification of his selection to Officer in 2014 and departed the USS Nimitz for Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI.
Tyler graduated from OCS as an honor graduate in July 2014 and was commissioned as an Ensign. Following OCS, he reported to the Navy Supply Corps Schoolhouse in Newport, RI. At the end of his schooling, he ran in and completed his first marathon in Newport, of which he was incredibly proud. His first assignment out of the Supply Corps Schoolhouse was to the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) in Norfolk, VA in December 2015 as the Financial Disbursing Officer. Tyler completed an eight-month Arabian Gulf deployment where he served alongside and fell in love with his wife-to-be, Whitney Morey. They married in 2017 and were eventually blessed with their beautiful daughter, Teagan Dominique, in March 2019.
They attended Grace Bible Church in Virginia Beach, VA, where they served on the usher ministry from 2016-2018. Tyler faithfully served in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 2019 to pursue a civilian career for the flexibility of his and Whitney's growing family. He served his country selflessly with much honor, sacrifice, and commitment. His dedication to his duty was unwavering, and his bravery was an inspiration to all who knew him. His personal military decorations include: two sea service ribbons, a Flag Letter of Commendation, and various unit, campaign, and service awards. In 2019, he became employed with BAE Systems as a management contractor in the company's Intelligence and Security Sector.
Even with his numerous academic accomplishments and highly decorated professional career, Tyler's love for Teagan was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted father and cherished every moment spent with her. She was the apple of his eye and she will carry on her daddy's legacy. Tyler continued writing poetry throughout his life and wrote many for his precious Teagan. We will all cherish his arsenal of poetry.
Growing up and throughout his life, Tyler had a great love for the beach - especially at our family home in Port Aransas, where he spent many summers and spring breaks with family and friends, making memories to cherish forever. He always mentioned that Teagan would be a water baby and have the same passion he did for the beach. He spent much time in the Outer Banks with Whitney's family as well.
Tyler was a humble person who loved and lived life to the fullest. He was a gentle and kind person who vigorously pursued his goals and aspirations with intentionality and excellence. His accomplishments and accolades are too numerous to mention, but of greatest significance is his rich legacy of brilliance, kindness, love, gentleness, service, and artistic expression which lives on through all of his many family members, friends, shipmates, and those whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, "Mimi" Marilyn Chapman. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Teagan, and her mother, Whitney; his parents, Dawn and David Baros, Steven Davidson; siblings, Cody Davidson (Jennifer and Wesley), Elise Marchese (Brad and Luca), Morgan Baros, Lorin Renaghan (PJ and Paisley), Clint Baros, and Britta Baros; grandparents, "Papa" George Chapman (Patsy Hester), Tina Olivo, "Grandad" Dr. Edward Murphy; and the many extended family and friends who will miss his contagious and beautiful smile, gentle nature, and sweet soul.
To honor Tyler's memory, we celebrate the life he lived and the many ways he touched our hearts and lives. His spirit will continue to live on through his family and friends, his dedication to his country, his poetry, and the love he shared so generously with all who knew and loved him. He will be missed beyond comprehension.
