

Robert (Bob) Gorena, age 73, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. Bob was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born on May 6, 1943 in Edinburg, Texas to Jose A. Gorena and Evelyn Saenz Gorena. Bob is survived by his brother Javier (and wife Mary) Gorena and sister Sandra (and husband Dan) Dillard, two daughters Melinda Gorena Roth and Melissa Hudson; his sons-in-law Mark A. Roth and Chris Hudson; and his grandchildren C.J. and Evan Hudson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also Valerie, Stephanie and Rachel Voltz who he loved as his own grandchildren. He showed his love freely and brightened the lives of those around him with his humor and his compassion for those he loved and cared for.
Bob was a longtime employee of Catholic Charities where he managed volunteer programs that assisted the elderly to find work as volunteers. Prior to working for Catholic Charities, Bob was a salesman for Tom Benson Chevrolet for many years.
Bob attended Edinburg High School where he played football and wore number 73. Bob was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and part of his work with Catholic Charities was organizing bus trips to attend Cowboys games, with the proceeds benefitting Catholic Charities and the Knights of Columbus. His job provided him with two things that he enjoyed immensely: helping people and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Bob was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Family was priority for Bob. His greatest pleasure was being with his grandsons CJ and Evan. Bob was happiest when family was visiting, he was visiting family, or any family member was in his presence. Bob enjoyed playing guitar and singing and was even in a band called "The B Team" which was hired to play many small venues in San Antonio. He played competitive tennis, softball and bowling for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sobie, parents Jose A. Gorena and Evelyn Saenz Gorena, and older brother Jose "Joe" Angel Gorena, Jr.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, December 30th at 4:00 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Blanco Rd. A Mass will follow, and a reception following the Mass will be at the Gorena residence at 15914 Crepe Myrtle 78232.
