Born on September 27, 1969, in Havre De Grace, Maryland, to Sharon Woodruff Carter and the late Robert W. Gullion, Bob’s path of service began shortly after his 1987 graduation from Mt. Savage High School, Mt. Savage, MD and Allegany County Vocational and Technical School, Cumberland, MD. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, dedicating the next 20 years to his country—first in medical administration and later in military personnel. His distinguished military career took him to a deployment to RAF Little Rissington, Gloucestershire, England in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and assignments to Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, the Air Reserve Personnel Center, Denver, CO, and Randolph AFB, TX, but his most fateful assignment was his first assignment to Wilford Hall, Lackland AFB, TX where he met a fellow Airman, Linda D. Petersen in August 1989. They married on June 22, 1990, beginning a 36-year journey of shared service, love, and family.
After retiring from active duty in 2007, Bob seamlessly transitioned his passion for helping others into a civilian career. For 19 years, he was a pillar of leadership within the Air Force’s Wounded Warrior and Casualty Programs. He lived by the Air Force core values—Integrity, Service Before Self, and Excellence—providing unwavering support to service members and their families.
While Bob was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of the outdoors, especially fishing, and a Diet Mt. Dew, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Linda, a proud father to his sons, Christopher and Nicholas, and a doting GramPa to the absolute lights of his life, Ruby and Lily.
Bob’s legacy of love, integrity, and gentle strength is carried on by his wife, Linda of San Antonio; his sons: Christopher R. Gullion of St. Hedwig, TX, and Nicholas A. Gullion (Cheree) of Converse, TX; granddaughters: Ruby R. Gullion and Lily A. Gullion of Converse, TX; mother, Sharon Woodruff Carter (Newt) of Belington, WV; his brothers: Wayne H. Gullion of Frostburg, MD, and Brian V. Gullion (Maria) of Lonaconing, MD; Father and Mother-In-Law, Rex D. and Hazel R.
