Robert E. Keenan

Robert "Bob" E. Keenan, LTC, US Army Ret, age 72, of Cibolo, TX, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2007. Mr. Keenan was in the Special Forces in the military and then taught at Pat Neff Middle School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph D. and Margaret A. Keenan. Survivors: his wife of 35 years, Katherine Keenan; daughters, Sara K. Sullivan Shaun, Bridget Garmon Jed, Sue Keenan Geno Mullins, and Kelly Keenan; sons, Patrick Keenan Tracy, Micah Keenan, and Timothy Keenan; 4 grandchildren; sister, Joyce Escondon Tony; numerous other relatives and friends.

Bob served 31 years in the military with honor and pride for his country. His career began in 1951 with the Marines in Korea; 1956 he enlisted in the US Army with Special Forces where he served with the 77th SFG, 10th SFG, JFKCENSPWAR and MACVSOG RVN. He had multiple assignments in Laos, Vietnam, Germany and Korea. Some of his awards included Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation with Ribbon Bar with One Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, 1st Oak Leaf Cluster Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Ranger Badge, Vietnam parachutist badge ML, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, with Gold Star, Master Parachutist Badge.

After retiring from the military, Bob pursued a career in teaching at Pat Neff MS. He had so much enthusiasm for teaching and love of children that some referred to him as a Pied Piper because kids sought him in school and public places to share their joys and dreams. After graduation, many stayed in contact with him to share their hopes and success.

Parents often sat in his geography class for daily updates of world events. His passion was to reach as many young minds as possible and instill an enthusiasm of learning. Bob will be missed not only by his family but by all whose lives he touch.

Bob was member of Davy Crockett Lodge #1225 A.F & A.M., Alamo Heights #735 Order of the Eastern Star and a life member of the Special Forces Association.
