He was preceded in death by Joanne Mulkerrin Kirk and their infant son Joseph; spouse Patricia Blake Kirk and step children Mary Pat Hobbs and Margaret Mary Blake.
Bob's many survivors also include many loving children: Robert Kirk, Sr., Gerald Kirk, Thomas Kirk, Maura Glueck, Katherine Tewksbury, Terrance Kirk, Daniel Kirk, Amanda Pellitier. He is also survived by step children, Rozanne Blake, Eileen Spradling, James Blake, Elizabeth Blake-Martinez, and William Blake. A brother Bill and sister-in- law Linda along with dear cousins Jerry and James Condon, Jim and Irene Burke also mourn his passing. Bob was very proud of his 32 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob will be sorely missed by the many friends and acquaintances whose lives he touched significantly. His reliance on and fidelity to his Catholic faith guided him throughout both turbulent and positive times. His devotion to St. Anthony de Padua of San Antonio for many years is noteworthy, where he served on St. Vincent De Paul board for over 15 years. Bob also served in WWII in the Pacific Theater 1943-1945 and in the occupation of post-war Japan. Bob was a loving and devoted father, brother, husband, cousin, and friend to all. Of his more endearing traits were his sense of humor and ability to win friends quickly. Among his passions were Chicago sports teams and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish even if they were down close to the end of the game. He was quick to say that there was never a loser when the White Sox played the Cubs. Bob remained the quintessential Chicagoan and never lost the awe of growing up in "an Irish Catholic neighborhood" known for hilarity, working class folks and rich, enduring relationships. He will be greatly missed by many.
