
Colonel Robert Burns Knox, USAF Ret, age 84, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, February 15, 2002. He was born February 26, 1917 and raised in Concord, NH. He held a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master's degree from The George Washington University. Knox entered the Flying Cadet Program in 1940, completed pilot training and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the then Army Air Corps with flying Cadet class 41-E at Maxwell Field, Alabama in July 1941. During his 30 years of active duty in the Air Force he was awarded the Legion of Merit with an oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Commendation Medal with an oak leaf cluster, and various other service awards. He retired as a colonel at Wright- Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio in January 1970. With the exception of living one year in Hawaii and one year back in his native New Hampshire, he was a resident of San Antonio since 1970. For some 16 years he served as a church administrator on the staff of St. George Episcopal Church, and was active in the healing and pastoral care ministries where he was a member of the board of directors of both the International Order of St. Luke the Physician and the Agnes Sanford Schools of Pastoral Care for many years. In 1989 Knox was preceded in death by his wife, of 48 years, Barbara Lovejoy, also a native of Concord, NH. Knox is survived by his son, Robert B. Knox Jr and wife Bertha of West Liberty, KY; daughter, Karen K. Campbell and husband Alfred of Cordova, TN; sister, Teresa O'Donnell and husband Thomas of Warwick, RI; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
