

Robert V. ("Bob") Marraro, Ph. D., Major, United States Air Force (Retired), passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on May 24, 1930, he lived a long and distinguished life marked by honor, service, scholarship, and devotion to his family.
Bob proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Major and built a career that combined scientific innovation with military leadership. His final post was as Chief of Biomedical Sciences at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where he oversaw critical research and medical advancements that strengthened the health and readiness of the men and women of the Air Force.
In addition to his military service, Bob was a dedicated scholar. He earned his Ph. D in 1971 from Ohio State University, an achievement that not only marked a turning point in his professional life, but also fueled his deep and lifelong pride in being a Buckeye. Known among family and friends as an enthusiastic supporter of OSU football, he cheered for his team with passion every season. Beyond his military service, Bob also made significant contributions to his field, authoring over 20 scientific papers that advanced biomedical knowledge and supported the mission of the Air Force medical community.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved son, James Marraro '85 (Texas A&M University). He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 45 years, Barb Marraro, whose devotion and companionship sustained him throughout his life. Together they built a home filled with warmth, love and laugher. Bob is survived by his children Lisa Cole, Linda Lehmer, Tony Marraro, and Robert Marraro Jr. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren.
Those who knew Bob remember him as husband, father, mentor, author airman, scientist, and friend. He lived by the highest values of service, scholarship, and love of family. At 95, Bob leaves behind a legacy measured not only by achievements and publications, but also by his children he inspired and the enduring love of his family. He will be deeply loved, profoundly missed and forever remembered.
