Robert Chappell Mayes died May 26, 2009 in Austin, Texas. He was born January 25, 1912 in Brownwood, Texas, and grew up in Brownwood and Austin. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1932 with a Business degree. He worked as a journalist for the newspaper in Edinburg, and then for the San Antonio Express News where he became news editor. Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Elizabeth Morris Mayes. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Ann Ferguson Moon, and her son, John Michael Moon, both of Houston, as well as nieces and nephews. We will miss him.
