He flew 40 missions over the South Pacific in WWII and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Col. McKaig retired from the Air Force after 26 years of service.
After retirement he became a loving grandfather to all his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bill McKaig. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy McKaig; daughter, Virginia Kalt and husband Robert of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Cele McKaig of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Matthew, David and Michael Kalt, Heather and Jeremy McKaig; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held privately for the family.
