Our condolences to all the family. Bob and Rita were such good friend to my parents, Bob and Betty Rabroker. Bob was always willing to help whenever and wherever, no matter what was needed. A truly giving person who proved his faith by the way he lived his daily life.

June, I'm so sorry for you and your family. Your Dad was a great guy and I know you will miss his presence and guidance. I still feel the need to speak to my Mom and Dad. Giving thanks to God that Mom (Gertrude Mecke Triggs) had the blessing of her loving and attentive younger brother's frequent visits and teasing fun from next door.  (Rita Redmond, niece)    Rarely did those visits take place that Uncle Bob didn't bring in Mom and Grandma's mail and end with warmth, encouragement, love, and laughter. We're so grateful the two of them (their only siblings) had each other's nearness (thanks Mom for buying that house!) Thanks also to the whole Mecke family for the warm and happy standing invite for the holidays for Mom and Grandma and all of us visiting them and whoever the cat dragged in!! Hello. My name is Kathleen (Talley)Reile. You don’t really know me but I heard many things about you from my Great Aunt Audrie(Matula)Manny.  She and my Uncle Pete were so special to me and our family. My mother was Margaret Talley and we attended. St Anns. I visit Sunset Cem. And Holy Cross often and my family Talley’s/ Manny’s are buried there.  So sorry for your loss. I interacted the most with Mr. Mecke when I was little. He liked to call me 'Susie Mule-ears'! I 'allowed' that then because he was so kind and sweet to me. Over the years, when I was in town visiting my parents and ran into the Meckes at church, he would always greet me the same way. I treasure my pet name, as it brings back such good memories of a top-notch, wonderful man. He certainly was a model for the rest of us on how to live a holy life. I'm an age peer of Mark's.  We were all in scouting and church activities with Mr. Mecke over 50 years ago.  He was endlessly patient with those he mentored.  I learned a great deal about engineering and electronics from him.  He was never in a rush and always eager to help.  I last visited him about four years ago and he was a sharp as ever. I am so sorry to hear of Mr Mecke's death.  He and my father, Clifford Heady, were in the same  class of 1940 at Central Catholic and I was a best friend to his daughter, Emily at St Mary Magdalen's. Now I know why Emily was such a wonderful person.  Condolences to the family for your loss.

The Pipes family wishes to extend our sympathies to Bob Mecke's passing. Bob was a nephew to our grandmother Elsie Nana Mecke Pipes and first cousin to our father Richard Lloyd Pipes who passed away in 2018. I met and visited with Bob on a few occasions over the years and admired his giving personality. You always felt comfortable in Bob's presence  and I know he will be sadly missed, but always we will feel blessed that we had him in our live. My deepest condolences to the Mecke family.  Bob was such a kind and humble man.  I first met him as Emily's friend when we attended Ursuline Academy.  Our paths crossed again at CPS Energy where we both worked. He always remembered me and stopped for a visit when he was downtown.  I had the immense pleasure of seeing him again in 2017 as CPS Energy celebrated its 75th anniversary. He was the guest of honor as the oldest retiree! I met Bob in 1964 when I was on a training program at CPS.  Bob had a unique personality, always smiling while trying to keep me off balance.  I enjoyed working with Bob, he was a wonderful person.  Our families shared time together at Blessed Sacrament Parish.  Bob and Rita put together a great Catholic family.  Janet and I send our sincere condolences to the Mecke family.  Rest in peace, Bob.

The thing I remember most about Mr. Mecke is that he always called me "Katsa". It made me feel special that he took time to give me a special name. He was always there for decades: sharing Christmas holidays with the Holy Family Guild, having a special talk with my new husband at my wedding reception to tell him how to cherish me, going to Terpsichorean dances with my parents, numerous trips to Las Vegas or the islands (including several years when he pushed my dad's wheelchair everywhere without complaint), and just being there day after day as our neighbor. I loved him and Mrs. Mecke so much. I wish I could hug you, Mrs. Mecke, and all you "Mecke kids". I will be thinking of you all with much love.

He was always there, next to his son, helping his son, dutifully being the best example of a loving father, a caring man being guided by Jesus Christ. His place in heaven is, again, next to his son, both of them caring and loving Jesus and each other. Thank you Lord!!

What a wonderful man, family friend and boss Mr. Mecke was! My dad, Lonnie Icke and Bob became good friends at CPS, scouting events, summer camps, and the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. I always knew when Labor Day was around the corner, because Mr. Mecke was callng so we could round up all the equipment and volunteers to run wire, set transformers, and get the support equipment on line. Mr. Mecke and I worked at CPS Energy together. He was a wonderful and thoughtful man. You can tell a lot about the character of a person simply by observing how others are impacted by his simple presence. Mr. Mecke was that type of person. If you were in a meeting or simply walking down the hall, Mr. Mecke always showed an illuminating warmth when he saw you. There was a time when I was the youngest member of the executive team. Mr. Mecke's professionalism and people skills were always present and for me, having that extra assurance that you always had someone in your corner. Mr. Mecke was one of the nicest humans I have ever met. I met the Mecke family in 2004 when I started working for the Muscular Dystrophy Association here in San Antonio. They came to every event and participated in every fundraiser. After I had my son Mr. Mecke ALWAYS greeted me with a kiss on the cheek and asked “How is that handsome boy of yours?”...he always remembered him.  I have fond memories of my first telethon days where Mr. Mecke and his sons would come in and put up the huge, old, tote board. That thing was so old but somehow he always got it to work! Rest In Peace Mr. Mecke, you lived a long amazing life!

I have so many memories of Mr. Mecke, but one that stands out was when i had a breaker go bad in my 30 year old condo.  Now those breakers were 30 years old too, and obsolete!  Mr. Mecke hit the internet and two weeks later, he found one!  He was 85 at that time and so sharp and precise with changing that breaker.  He could fix anything.  Always had a smile and a hug for me.  I will always remember him fondly.

Our sincerest sympathy for Bob's family.  I will never forget our working relationship at City Public Service.  He was an inspiration to many employees and a fine man. Gary & Bernice Schaub
