Robert joined the United States Air Force in 1967, and in 1969, he chose to participate in an early out program to become a member of the Air Force Reserve. He always reminisced about his Air Force days, and often shared that had he been given the opportunity to return to the service, he would have definitely reenlisted.
In 1975, Robert met his beloved wife, Adela Munoz through her brothers, and after a few dates at their favorite spot, the Little Red Barn, he quickly fell in love. The widowed mother of four, welcomed him into the family and the two enjoyed a full life together for fifty years.
Robert was known for his never-ending sense of humor, his unwavering work ethic, and most importantly, his love and support for his family. Along with his wife, he was a committed member of Temple of Praise Church where he served in the capacity of usher for many years.
Robert retired from Nabisco Brands where he worked as a truck driver delivering cookies throughout the southern region of Texas. After 35 years at Nabisco, he used his driving skills to secure a position at O’Reilly Auto Parts and delivered auto parts throughout San Antonio, Texas.
There are may talents that Robert shared with family and friends. In his younger years, he spent many hours singing in a neighborhood band; enjoying the great music of the 70’s. He was also an avid pool player and won many trophies that graced his home for several years. Despite being left handed, he was pretty proficient using any type of tool. He used his developing carpentry skills whenever he could, and even succeeded in building a dream dining room for his wife.
Robert also spent many years as an original member of the San Antonio Spurs Baseline Bums, a group of fans notorious for taunting the visiting teams. As a Baseline Bum, Robert traveled with the players to their out-of-town games and spent time with icons such as George Gervin, Coby Dietrick, James Silas, and Louie Dampier.
In his later years, Robert could be seen on the golf course with his son-in-laws and grandson. Hitting the ground more than his ball, Robert just loved the comradery with the guys and the cold beer they shared after their rounds. His passing leaves a tremendous void on the golf course and in many other family gatherings.
