MSGT Retired Robert D. Nothstine entered eternal rest on March 17, 2019 at his home in Universal City. Born August 6, 1928 in San Antonio Texas to Elmer and Josephine Nothstine. Bob was raised in the oil fields of south Texas and for several years helped his father and grandmother run the family farm in Missouri. Bob developed a deep love for the outdoors and the many animals God put there. Hunting, fishing and looking for arrowheads were a big part of his childhood. After graduation Bob joined the National Guard and shortly afterward His unit was deployed, and he served in Korea and Japan. Uncle Bob retired as a MSGT after serving for 35 years and began to seriously pursue his passion for the outdoors by spending at least once a month making trips across the state competing in bass club tournaments. He was a member of Guadalupe, XXX and Universal City Bass clubs and won many plaques and trophies. Whenever his wife Tricia needed a break from these trips he filled her spot by taking his very eager Grand Nephew Michael along. While adjusting to retired life and realizing he needed to do a few other things beside fishing to pass the time Bob worked with his nephew Wayne as a carpenter, mowed grass for several family members, friends and neighbors and made it his life’s mission to save a multitude of stray cats and dogs in Universal city. He loved to visit and enjoyed friendly conversation at the local McDonalds, Dairy Queen and Barber shop. Bob lived a long and beautiful life and enjoyed being silly and making people laugh. He was fond of being called Grumpy in his later years though he was far from it to those that were a part of his life. He will be greatly missed by his dear wife Patricia, Sister in law Janie Ulbrich, Spiritual adopted family Mary, Alfred, Matthew and Ashley, Nephew Wayne Ulbrich and wife Rosie, Nephew Lawrence Ulbrich and wife Betsy, Niece Kathy Marbach and husband Dennis and niece Judith Lewandowski, Best fishing buddy Michael Ulbrich and wife Donna and numerous other grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Josephine.
