Col. Robert F. Layton, USAF Ret., age 88, of San Antonio, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2002. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force before the US was involved in WW II and later joined the Army Air Corps. He flew 31 missions over Germany in WW II, and was also a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. Col. Layton was the commander of the Basic Training Command at Lackland AFB. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma R. Layton of San Antonio; son, Robert F. Layton, Jr. and wife, Glenda of Stockdale; daughter, Mary C. Milam and husband, Andy of Blanco; grandchildren, Brandis Smoland and husband, Keith, Troy and Andrea Green, Garrett, Sharee and William Layton.
