March 31, 1935 - March 20, 2026
Robert "Bob" Jacob Seiler, Jr. peacefully completed his earthly journey on March 20", just a few days shy of his 91" birthday. God saw that he was weary and granted him eternal rest.
Bob was born on March 31, 1935, in Schertz, Texas, to Robert and Elfrieda (Vordenbaum) Seiler. He graduated from Schertz-Cibolo High School in 1953, where he excelled in athletics, particularly baseball and football. Although he was offered a baseball scholarship to Texas Lutheran College, Bob chose to serve his country, and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps along with two close friends. He served for two years, much of that time aboard the USS Wisconsin as an aide to the ship's Admiral. His service as a Marine remained one of his proudest accomplishments, "Once a Marine, always a Marine."
Upon returning to Texas, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Jane Katt. Their marriage spanned 70 remarkable years, marked by deep love, respect, and unwavering devotion.
Bob dedicated 35 years of his professional life to the Straus-Frank Company. Starting as a billing clerk, he rose through the ranks to become Sales Manager of the Frigidaire Division, retiring in 1997. Known for his strong work ethic, honesty, and dedication, he built lasting relationships across South Texas. In 1974, he served as President of the Appliance Association. His success earned him numerous rewards, including trips to Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Hawaii, and several cruises.
Bob and Sylvia shared a love of bowling and dancing. Saturday nights were often spent on the dance floor, enjoying everything from country and western to ballroom, polkas, and waltzes. Bob was an accomplished dancer and an exceptional bowler. At the Cibolo Bowling Club, he bowled nine-pin and earned the title of King nine times in King/Queen tournaments. In San Antonio, he also competed in ten-pin leagues and tournaments at the city and state levels. In later years, Bob loved gambling at various casinos. Bob always looked forward to at least a monthly trip to Kick-A-Poo Casino in Eagle Pass.
Bob had a lifelong passion for sports and the outdoors. From a young age, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father-traditions he carried on with his sons and grandchildren. He spent over 60 years on a deer lease in Boerne, serving as lease manager for the last decade. Annual family gatherings at the close of hunting season—making sausage and panass became cherished traditions. Bob also hunted in Colorado, South Texas and West Texas where he harvested several trophy bucks. Fishing was another great joy, from freshwater bass fishing in his early years to deep-sea fishing later in life. Known affectionately as "Snapper Bob," he took his final fishing trip in July 2025 at the age of 90.
After the family moved to Northern Hills in 1973, Bob took up golf, teaching himself the game and quickly mastering it. He became part of the "Dirty Dozen" group and founded the annual Northern Hills Stampede tournament.
Family was at the heart of Bob's life. He made it his mission to keep family bonds strong, organizing annual vacations and gatherings. Many summers were spent in Port Aransas, and numerous memorable family trips were taken to Cabo San Lucas. In 2000, Bob and Sylvia purchased a condo in Port Aransas, creating a special place for family time—filled with fishing, poolside laughter, Fourth of July fireworks, and homemade ice cream. Though Hurricane Harvey destroyed the condo in 2017, the memories remain cherished. Holiday traditions, especially Christmas Day with prime rib dinners, carols, and white elephant gift exchanges were highlights of family life.
Affectionately known as "Pappaw," Bob shared a special bond with each of his grandchildren. His granddaughters, whom he lovingly nicknamed "Pumpkin," held a particularly special place in his heart. He continued to share his love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his grandsons. Every fishing trip was extra special if a grandchild was with him. His three great-grandchildren brought him immense joy and were a treasured blessing as well.
Bob was a man of deep faith, baptized and confirmed as a child, and remained an active member of MacArthur Park Lutheran Church.
Bob was a devoted husband and a loving father. He had a warm, welcoming personality and a gift for bringing people together. Bob lived life to the fullest—always ready to celebrate, always there to lend a helping hand. He was deeply respected and dearly loved, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him. He will forever be remembered for living life by the motto "I did it my way".
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia; his three sons, Rodney (Lin), Brian (Kristina), and Scott (Charlotte); five grandchildren, Samantha Edwards (Dustin), Sabrina McWilliams (Steven), Lindsey, Jacob, and Matthew Seiler; and three great-grandchildren, Aidan Allan Edwards, Avery Jane Edwards, and Noah Michael McWilliams. He is also survived by his brother, Stanley (Betty) Seiler, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Attkisson and Viola Norwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elfrieda Seiler; his brother Vernon Seiler (Joy); his sisters Vernel Brehm (Clarence) and Sharon Seiler; his granddaughters Susannah Paige Seiler and Katherine Kendall Seiler; and his brothers-in-law Rich Attkisson and Frank Norwood.
Pallbearers are Matthew Seiler, Jacob Seiler, Steven McWilliams, Dustin Edwards, Kenneth Norwood and Greg Flores. Honorary pallbearers are Bennie Syamken, LeRoy Sthele, Charlie Miculka and Tommy Tarrazes.
The family expresses great appreciation to Reliable At Home Hospice and The Havens and the Laurels in Stone Oak for Bob's loving care and support. Contributions in Bob's name can be made to MacArther Park Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio TX 78218. Visitation will be on Friday, March 27th from 5:30pm to 8 pm with funeral services on Saturday, March 28th, at 1pm.
