

Robert W. Squires of San Antonio, Texas, succumbed to cancer at his home surrounded by his family on September 28, 2014. He was born August 17, 1934 in Butte, Montana. He was a loving husband, father and a real friend to so many.
Robert graduated from Montana State University in 1956 with a BS in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force where he received training to become a navigator. He was assigned to various strategic air command bases as a navigator/instructor navigator on KC-97 and KC-135 aircraft. While serving in Southeast Asia, he was awarded the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Medal with Eight Oak Leaf Clusters. He also was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
With the rank of Lt. Colonel and after 28 years in the Air Force, Robert retired and moved to San Antonio. He and his wife, Denise, enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Hawaii and touring European countries, Wales, Scotland, England, and Russia and the Scandinavian countries. One of Robert’s favorite past-times after dinner was driving through streets around the house with his wife to see the deer.
Robert is survived by his son, David of Orlando, Florida and daughter, Crystal of Salem, Massachusetts, his sister, Dorothy Lakewold of Lacey, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, October 3, 2014 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in memory of Robert to the American Cancer Society or the MS Society. Robert will be missed terribly but remembered forever.
