Robert David Swan began his new life in heaven on July 5, 2023 greeted by his beloved daughter Kristi and many relatives and friends. He was born March 19, 1947 in Dallas, TX to George Henry Swan, Jr. and Margaret Mueller Swan, the third of four children. He spent his first nine years in Hutchins, TX until the family moved to San Antonio. He attended school at Alamo Heights before transferring to MacArthur his junior year, he graduated from there in 1965.
He then started college at San Antonio College, where he became a member of the infamous Delta fraternity. Though David never shied from fun, neither did he shy from work. While attending school he worked at Joskes as assistant manager of the linen department. It was there he met Nancy Dunn, and since his good looks, engaging smile and sense of humor were not lost on her they were married thirteen months later December 20, 1968.
During their courtship, however, his schooling was interrupted by a call from Uncle Sam. His Air Force reserve unit was activated in January 1968 during the Pueblo crisis. After proudly serving, he utilized the G.I. Bill to finish his education at Southwest Texas State University. He commuted daily to San Marcos carrying as many as 23 hours per semester while being on the dean’s list. He graduated in 1972 with a degree in marketing and management. During this time, he and Nancy started their family – Kristine 1970, Heather 1972, Melanie 1975.
October 1972 he bought his first business, Mobile Cleaning Service and after selling it a few years later, bought his father’s equipment rental business that later became Rent Rite Rentals. Then in 1986, at the age of 39, he sold it to spend more time with his girls. In 1995 he and Nancy opened the Tool Shed, a small engine repair shop, where many customers became lifelong friends. Coffee and conversation were a constant!
After closing the shop in 2011, David retired from business but not life. He immersed himself in the issues and politics of Hollywood Park where they had lived since 1978.
