

Foard was born in Houston on September 6, 1941 to Rowena Simpson Townsend and Robert Foard Townsend, Jr.
He graduated from the San Antonio Academy, Texas Military Institute and Trinity University. He received his Master's Degree from Incarnate Word College.
Foard loved to read, and books were a favorite present. He also loved pens, dogs, watches and binoculars. He especially loved The University of Texas football team and always had season tickets to the games.
Foard taught history at St. Mary's Hall for a brief time and then worked for the T.B. Control Board. He worked at the Bexar County Adult Probation Department for twenty nine years and met many friends whom he saw once a month at Mama's Caf after retirement.
During his retirement he also did volunteer work at Christian Assistance Ministry. Foard was a member of The Argyle, San Antonio Country Club, San Antonio German Club and The Order of the Alamo.
He leaves behind his wife of almost forty years, Marian Law Townsend and two sons, John Foard Townsend and Franklin Simpson Townsend. His beloved dog, "Precious", still waits by his chair for him to return home. He also leaves behind his sister, Diana Townsend Morehouse; his brother, William B. Osborn III and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Shirley Ann Riggs of Houston and Dr. Lon Smith of San Antonio for their wonderful care.
