

He was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. His entire life he enjoyed playing and coaching numerous sports including baseball, bowling, darts, football, and golf. After being named all-state and upon graduation from Central Catholic High School in 1961 he chose to play baseball at Southwest Texas State as pitcher.
In 2003, he retired after 35 years of service to the City of San Antonio as a chemical analyst for the Health Department. He turned into a “techie” later in life, learning how to build and repair computers and maintain websites.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude M. Turella; his father, Joseph A. Turella, Sr.; his beloved granddaughter, Krysti Reneé Turella; and his nephew Vincent A. Turella.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alice R. Turella; 3 children, Yvonne Pérez, Dale Turella & wife, Colette and Valerie Vlahos & husband, Peter; grandchildren, Taylor & Kyler Pérez, Davion Turella, Lydia & George Vlahos; brother Joseph A. Turella, Jr. & wife, Pat; Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his dogs Khaoz and Moo.
A Memorial Rosary will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Serenity Mausoleum.
