Robert Baldwin Underwood

Loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Robert Baldwin Underwood, Jr., age 81, passed away Tuesday April 25, 2023 in San Antonio, TX. He was born in New Haven, CT, and grew up in Branford, CT. He was a graduate of Branford HS, Purdue University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, serving as Chaplain. He also received his MBA from University of Texas (Austin). He served in Southeast Asia as Captain in the Air Force (1964-69) where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Service and Expeditionary Medals. Bob worked from 1970 till 1999 for INA later Cigna Property & Casualty, Specialty Insurance, Philadelphia, PA. and held the position of Vice President, Excess Causality. During his retirement years, he volunteered as a Mediator for the courts in Camden County, NJ, and as a Mediation Screener in the Bexar County (TX) Dispute Resolution Center.

Preceded in death by parents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Underwood and survived by his wife of 54 years Yolanda Chavez Underwood, daughter Elizabeth (Peter) Hourihan, son Robert (Alana) Underwood and grandchildren Ethan and Maria Hourihan and Samira, Raymond, and Rohan Underwood, and sister Susanne (Michael) Hayes.

Rosary will be held at Porter Loring North San Antonio, TX, May 17 at 7 pm and mass will be at 11:30 am on May 18 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks Dr 78232. Committal Service will be at 2:30 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 3, 78209.
