

Robert Gene Yates died Wed. July 13, 2011. He was born 1-3-32 in Red Cloud, Nebraska. He was raised in Deepwater, Missouri where he attended schools & participated in basketball, track, & theatre, then graduated from Deepwater High School in 1950. Service in the MO. National Guard began in 1949, followed by 26 years as a Chief in the US Navy, from 1951-1977. During his military career, he served in both the Korean & Vietnam Wars with some consequential disability to hearing & exposure to “agent orange”. His service to his country earned him recognition with medals, commendations and rank. Upon retirement he continued his service to his country as a mail carrier for the U.S Postal Service for 18 years retiring in 1995. Full retirement began in Florida, then continued in Texas where he & wife, of 47 years, Mary Gladys Jureczki Yates, lived until her passing in 2007. He traveled the U.S. visiting friends & family while in retirement, creating & sharing memories. His survivors include relatives in Missouri & Texas. For the last 3 years, he lived comfortable & carefree at his apartment @ Horizon Bay Retirement Center where he was loved & cared for by the Staff, Nephews, Nieces and Relatives. Mr. Yates personality & humor helped him to easily make friends and he will be missed by many. This hard working farm boy is a tribute to the benefit of hard work & thrifty living, which took him from humble beginnings to a life of comfort and travel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Sunset Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
