Rodolfo H. Alvarado, age 75, died on Saturday, December 10, 2016. He was born in San Antonio to parents John and Amalia (Cervantes) Alvarado. Rodolfo is a graduate of Central Catholic High School. Starting at the bottom, Rudy worked his way up the ladder at Kelly Air Base before becoming only 1 of 5 GM 17's at Kelly AFB. He retired as a production manager after 29 years. Rudy loved many things; his westerns, hunting, fishing, almost anything outdoors and working with his hands. Most of all he loved his family. While he would do everything and anything for his girls, his Nicolas and Emily were his world. He instilled in them his love for the outdoors and taught them the value of hard work as he did with his girls as they were growing up. He could fix anything, from farming equipment to the smallest household items. Rudy was the pillar and rock of his family, a wonderful husband, provider, father, grandfather, great grandfather and mentor to many young men throughout the years. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church for many years, where he was the chairman of the pastoral council, chairman of the church festival, an usher and assisted with many other church duties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard C. Alvarado and his beloved dog, Daisy.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elvira "Vera"; daughters, Georgia Ann O'Flaherty and husband Jeff O' Flaherty, Carolyn Alvarado and Margaret Rose Brieno; grandchildren, Nicolas and Emily Brieno, Sean O'Flaherty and wife Dr. Erin O'Flaherty and Lauren Benton and husband Brian; great-grandchildren, Luke and Jack Benton and Nora O'Flaherty; sister Marina T. Zamora and husband Raul; brother John Rey Alvarado and wife Melody; one Godson Justin Alvarado and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful care Rudy received from Lisa, his nurse in the SICU at Methodist Hospital and all the SICU nursing staff, Dr. Jorge Alvarez and Dr. Broadus Atkins.
