Rodolfo Elias Benavides, Sr., age 85, of San Antonio, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 12, 2018. He was born April 25, 1932 in Crystal City, Texas to the late Gilbert and Juanita (Jiminez) Benavides.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

He married Josephine Ramon in 1959

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in the great outdoors; working on his property and riding his John Deer tractor and lawn mower. He loved animals; he had horses, chickens, dogs, and cats. You could find him relaxing on his porch listening to the radio or watching Family Feud and Western movies. He enjoyed a great meal and an ice cold beer. He was a consummate problem solver, a very intuitive man—always thinking ‘outside the box.’ He loved his family and his beloved wife; he was a proud provider and loving family man.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Ramon Benavides; siblings, Alicia B. Yabarra, Gilbert Benavides, Jr., Julio Benavides and Bertha B. Castro. He is survived by his children, Rudy Benavides, Jr. and John Benavides; grandchildren, Abilene Benavides and John Austin Benavides; siblings, Raul Benavides, Sr. and Aida Sucedo; and many close friends he considered family.

Family is receiving friends during his visitation on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. To My Beloved Grandpa,
Words can not begin to describe how much you will be missed. I am the woman I am today because of your unconditional love and support. I could always count on you to catch me when I fell. You never judged, you just looked at me with eyes full of love. You taught me everything to never turn your back on someone in need, Give the shirt off your back if that meant it would make someones life better. To appreciate the little things in life: like the sound of the wind blowing through the trees, to running in the grass barefoot and eat watermelon on a hot summer day. All the things you taught me helped me become who I am today. I am as stubborn and opinionated as you, but I am forever grateful. To gave me the opportunity to grow up on beautiful land in a house you made with your own two hands. Take care of family because they are all you got. I hope I can continue to carry on your legacy and continue to make you proud. I love you Grandpa.
