Rodolfo Niño, or Rudy to his family and friends, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on March 16, 2026, due to complications related to liver cancer. He passed just days after the anniversary he shared with his wife of fifty years, Concha. His soul was surrounded by family and loved ones as he began his journey.
Born on October 18, 1951, in Littlefield, Texas, Rudy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, co-worker, and friend. Rudy devoted his life to military service, having served in the Navy and Air force. While in the Navy, he served on the U.S.S. Lexington in Pensacola, Florida and in the helicopter squadron in Alameda, California.
Following his naval service, he joined the Air Force and was also stationed at home in San Antonio, Texas where he worked in mechanics and logistics for C-130 and C-5 aircraft at the 433rd Air Force Wing at Kelly Air Force Base. He retired from the Air Force on November 11, 2003 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
Following retirement, he enrolled at Our Lady of the Lake University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and began a second career in that field. Once officially retired, he chose to work for O’Reilly Auto Parts for eight years. He truly loved going to work each day and enjoyed working with the incredible co-workers that felt like a second family.
He touched the lives of the many people he came across with his kind nature and sense of humor. He was known for his generosity and ability to connect with anyone, or anything, that he came across in his life. To that point, he was a very devoted caretaker of many…many…many animals. The number pets that he cared for throughout his life are too numerous to count, from dogs and cats to roosters and turtles.... he loved and cared for them all and instilled that sense of love for all creatures - and our responsibility to all living things - in his children and grandchildren.
As an extension of his military background, he loved to work with his hands and especially on vehicles. He had the uncanny ability to fix almost anything. Some of his most enjoyable moments were fixing and restoring cars with his grandson Joseph.
He loved his family and focused on them through his last days. He especially loved all his grandchildren. Every conversation that you had with him either began, or ended, with a story about one of them and how proud he was. He was very fortunate to spend time with all of them in his last days.
Rudy is preceded in his passing by his beloved parents Seferino and Cleotilde Niño, whom he missed dearly. He is also preceded by his siblings Jose, Seferino, Jose, Maria, and Maria…all of whom he loved immensely.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Concha Cadena Niño, and his sons Rodolfo Niño, Jr., and his wife Nikki; Michael Niño and his wife Karissa; and Joseph Phillip Niño and his wife Angela. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alazaih Nicole Niño; Joseph Phillip Niño, Jr.; Madeleine Michelle Niño; Matthew Niño; Julianne Elise Niño; Devino Pallegrino Niño; Kitana Grace Niño; and Kevin Villareal.
A gathering and Rosary to honor and celebrate Rudy will be held at Trevino Funeral Home (226 Cupples Road, 78237) on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Family and friends may arrive beginning at 5:00 PM, with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM.
The chapel service will take place at the Trevino Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 9, 2026 to begin at 9:45 AM followed by his burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, 78209) at 11:15 AM.
