As a result of his father’s early death, Rudy worked part-time to pay for his schooling at St. Mary’s University. Rudy’s bachelor’s degree in physics was awarded by St. Mary’s University, and his Master of Arts degree was awarded by Incarnate Word University. He volunteered in the San Antonio Archdiocese in several capacities and was instrumental in helping the late Archbishop Patrick Flores evangelize and implement the Vatican II Council recommendations.
In 2014, Rudy was Professed as a Third Order Lay Franciscan in the St. Francis of Assisi Fraternity in San Antonio. During his tenure he served as treasurer and was able to increase the membership and stabilize the finances of the Fraternity.
