

Roger was born in Daviess County to Nola Francis Russelburg and Edward Ellis Evans on July 3rd 1947. He went to school at Owensboro Catholic High. He married Sandra Lee Rose on 27 July 1969 in Reno, Nevada. He worked as a Boiler Technician with the United States Navy for 20 years and achieved the rank of E8 - Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war with four tours of duty. His Military Awards included the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal 4th Award, Navy Sea Service Deployment 4th Award, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Civic Action Honor Unit Citation with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Navy Surface Warfare Enlisted Badge.
Roger is preceded in death by his Wife of 50 years Sandra Lee Evans, six Brothers Jim, Jerold, Bill, Dennis, Joseph, Steve, and a Sister Ida Farmer.
Roger is survived by his Son Justin Ellis Evans (Wife Nga), one Brother Pat Evans (Wife Barbara), a Sister Paula Payne (Husband Mitchell), along with two Grandchildren Zachary and Liam Evans and two Great Grandchildren Archer and Theodore Evans.
Pallbearers will be provided by the Sam Houston National Cemetery Full Honors Team.
Funeral services will be held graveside at 1:30pm CST on Tuesday, 25 March 2025 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Burial arrangements are provided by Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.
