Roger is a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and Gulf War I. He completed his service as a Production and Operations Manager (Strategic Air Command) primarily serving in B-52 squadrons. His decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster. He served our country with great pride for 20 years and was able to pass that tradition down to his daughter who serves now in the United States Army Reserve for over 23 years. He was born at Brook Army Medical Center, the only son to Bertha Casias and Marcus Rodriguez (himself a U.S. Army veteran). Roger registered for active duty with his future brother-in-law right after graduating high school in 1970. Yet, there was a waiting period due to the Vietnam War. He then joined in February 1971. As a child, he attended St. Henry Catholic School, Harris Middle School, and Burbank High School. While still serving in the military Roger completed his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from Texas A&M -Commerce. Roger was baptized, received the first Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Sacrament of Matrimony, and baptized his first child all at St. Henrys Catholic Church in San Antonio. He loved to dance. Roger enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He enjoyed going with friends to SAS for 25-cent Coke and 5-cent popcorn. Roger did not stop working after retiring from the military. He worked at Nelson Elementary as a Parent\Community Liaison. He was also a professional photographer who used these skills to help the school with their yearbook. He was also very proud of Burbank High School. He was a dedicated alumnus of the school who served on the reunion committee to keep the Burbank community together. He tried to never miss his Wednesday morning breakfast club with his friends from Burbank, H.S. He always felt that it was important to live life to the fullest with love and let the negative pass him by. His family and many friends will miss Roger as he was taken too early from us. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
