
Roger's life was a testament of his ministry to God in all that he did and his lust for life was personified by his selflessness and his commitment to helping others. Roger was ordained a minister of the gospel in June, 1970 at the Church of God in Anderson, IN after which he entered into active duty in the Army until his retirement as Lt. Col. in April, 1994. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Anderson University in 1970 and his Doctorate of Ministry from the Oblate School of Theology in 1999.
Roger's achievements as a volunteer were nationally recognized when he was named National Volunteer of the Year in 1994 for VITAS Hospice.
Roger will always be remembered for his love of music and singing as well as being a devoted husband, loving and dedicated father, grandfather, brother, son, family member and friend.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Allen Wight; and his aunt, Carron Hull.
Roger is survived by his wife, Melissa Wight of San Antonio; sons: Brian C. Wight and wife, Laura of Seattle, WA; Jason N. Wight and wife, Mindy, of Seattle, WA; Patrick Ludwig of Abilene, TX and Nicholas K. Ludwig of San Antonio; granddaughters: Robyn and Mackenzie Wight; mother, Katherine Fidler and husband, Lawrence of Alma, MI; brothers: Richard Wight and wife, Linda; Russell Wight and wife, Joneen and Roy Wight and wife, Janet; as well as numerous other members of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Roger's name to Disability Resources Inc., P.O. Box 1880, Abilene, TX 79604.
