Roland Guillermo Benavides, born December 21, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas, passed away on July 8, 2021 at the age of 84. A Marine Corp veteran and an enthusiastic family, landscape, and nature photographer with a unique zest for life and curiosity that brought laugher and happiness to all whom he met. A kind man that was “only a phone call way” and who generously supported several organizations and to all those in need. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guillermo E. Benavides and Esther Hernandez Benavides. Roland is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Esther Benavides; children, Diana Y. Benavides-Starkey, Roland G. Benavides Jr. (Ofie), Robert J. Benavides (Dawne); brothers, Xavier, Raymond, and Robert Lionel Benavides; sister, Sylvia Palacios; grandchildren, Sarah Salazar, Marissa Benavides-Cook, Jacqueline and Savannah Benavides; great grandchildren, Isabella Mata, Cassidy and Abigail Salazar, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 12 pm – 2 pm, with a memorial service to begin at 2 pm.
