Roland A. Champagne, born May 19th, 1946, died suddenly on March 8, 2020 in San Antonio. He was an amazing husband, father and teacher. Roland served in the marines in Vietnam until 1972 and reached the rank of Captain. He was a professor of French at the University of Missouri St. Louis for 27 years until his early retirement in December 2002. Since then he has spent his time volunteering to work with children in Cambridge Elementary School and Howard Early Childhood center, helping them learn to write and express themselves. This brought him great joy and allowed him to help many children. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nina Ekstein, and his beloved son Noah Champagne, as well as his daughter-in-law Sarah Avery, and his six surviving siblings: Leo Champagne, Cecile Hall, Doris Helmich, Claire Laird, Paul Champagne, and Roger Champagne. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation in Roland's memory may contribute to either of the two libraries that he supported and loved.
