Roland E. Mundahl

Roland Eugene Mundahl passed away on February 1, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 86. Roland was born in Toronto, South Dakota to Chris and Helen Mundahl. He is the second oldest of six children. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Vanderlinde of Sioux Falls, SD, and Sharyl (Russ) Pederson of San Antonio, TX and a brother, Darrel Mundahl of Ingram, TX. He is preceded in death by a sister, Lorette (Richard) Zick and a brother, Wayne Mundahl, both of San Antonio, TX.

Roland enjoyed flying. He took flying lessons in Toronto, SD in 1945 and 1947 where he soloed and earned his private license.

Roland served in the Air Force from 1951 – 1955 working in supplies. He did his basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, was transferred to Wichita Falls and then to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Before going to Cheyenne he married Theresa Korbel in 1952.

Roland and Theresa have 4 children; Dennis Mundahl, Rick Mundahl, Dale Mundahl and Diane (Paul) Connor, all of San Antonio. They have 3 grandchildren; Caleb Connor, Sarah Mundahl, David Mundahl and numerous nieces and nephews.

In the early 1960’s, Roland and Theresa rented a mobile home lot at Lake Marble Falls where they enjoyed many weekends with family and friends. Roland and Theresa didn’t know how to swim but they would put on two life belts and go waterskiing. Their oldest son, Dennis, learned how to waterski and he and Roland would crisscross while skiing.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m, Friday, February 6, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 6720 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
