

Ron was born June 21, 1930 in Neosho, Missouri to Edward "Noodles" and Sylvia (Nance) Hoyt. During school he worked as a paper boy and at the Joplin Herald. He attended Neosho HS where he played baseball and ran track and was part of the graduating class of 1948. He graduated with a business degree from Drury College in 1952 and later from the USAF Officer Candidacy School in San Antonio, Texas. He continued his education by earning an MBA in Economics from the University of Southern California and his teaching certificate in mathematics from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
He joined the USAF in 1953, became a Russian Linguist, and served in the 6987th USAF Security Group in intelligence He served in the Vietnam war and has served tours of duty in Misawa, Japan, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., Shu Lin Kou Air Station in Taipei, Taiwan, and Lackland AFB in San Antonio where he retired from the Air Force in 1982.
Always one to value education, he started a second career as a High School teacher for the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio (NISD). He taught algebra, American history and was the Varsity Soccer Coach for the Holmes High School Huskies during their beginning years of soccer. He retired from NISD in 1995.
Coach Hoyt's affinity for coaching was evident throughout his life -- he was a Youth Softball Coach in Taipei, Taiwan, a baseball coach for the Northwest Little League in Helotes, Tx; a Soccer coach for the Northwest United Team in San Antonio, and was teaching his grandchildren how to play soccer the minute they could walk!
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and of the Boerne Chapter #64 of the Sons of the American Revolution which he joined with his grandsons.
He married Angelina Fraggiosa Hoyt on February 13, 1960 at the North Post Chapel at Ft. Meyer in Arlington, Virginia. She preceded him in death on September 30, 2017.
Survivors are, one daughter Laurie (Gary) Ackels of Helotes, two sons, Ronald A. Hoyt (Susan) of Katy, and Stephen Hoyt (Debra) of Kingwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Alex Hoyt, of Georgetown, TX; Taylor Hoyt, Ph.d. of San Francisco, CA; Sean Ackels, Ph.d (Rachel) of San Antonio, TX; Dylan Ackels of Van Nuys, CA; Jordan Hoyt and Morgan Hoyt both of Kingwood, TX.
Funeral Services will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on July 18, 2025 with a visitation at 10am and service to follow at 12pm.
Following the service, full military honors will be held graveside at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
