Ron W. Jones was born on October 13, 1940 to Esther and Charley Jones in Scottsbluff Nebraska. Ron was the youngest of six children. Soon after his birth the family moved to Huntley, Wyoming where they owned and operated a 1040 acre livestock and farm operation. Ron was the Valedictorian of his high school. The farm is still in the family and is a working operation to this day.
Ron attended the University of Wyoming; he participated in ROTC and was a Sigma Nu. Ron graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.
Ron joined the Air Force after graduation and was stationed at Kinchlow AFB. Michigan. He met Helen Ann Ottersky, they soon fell in love and were married on March 7, 1964. Ron and Helen decided to join the family business in Huntley, Ron and Helen had their only child, Janice May Jones while in Wyoming. The life in Huntley changed after the decision was made to rejoin the Air Force which included a tour in Vietnam, in the ramp up to the tour Ron and Helen were stationed at Stewart AFB in New York. Ron served in Vietnam and was stationed at Plei Ku where he earned a Bronze Star. The Jones were stationed in multiple places, some of the best were Vandenberg AFB, Al Riyad, military mission in Saudi Arabia, Ramstein AFB; Ron was an XO for General Hyde and was the commander of the ATC Analysis Team. The final assignment was Randolph AFB.
Ron and Helen started their business Creative Floral Designs by Helen from their garage at home, which has flourished into a successful business in Alamo Heights.
Ron was a man with an incredible love for his wife Helen. They worked side by side in life and in business for 54 years. Their love for each other was so much a part of their life, it poured out to others. His humor was dry and sarcastic. Through the years in the floral business Ron became known as the "Flower Man" as he delivered Helene's unique designs, taking the time to explain all the flowers in each arrangement. Ron shared his passion for flowers with every one; many customers would call and ask for Ron to deliver the creative designs, so they could experience his service and passion. Ron and Helene's reputation for service and kindness has made them a preferred florist in San Antonio.
Ron is survived by his loving wife; Helen, daughter; Janice Baldassari, son in law; Robert Baldassari, grandchildren; Zac Baldassari and Gabrielle Baldassari, and his sisters; Beverly Babcock, of Jackson Hole WY, and Sharon Jones Knutson, of Baton Rouge, LA., along with countless nieces, nephews and cousins from the Garret and Jones families.
Ron was a warrior in life and love. He fought a courageous battle until the very end. We will all miss him deeply; we will miss the spontaneous nonsense, wise cracks, and sarcasm. We will miss his leadership and kindness; we will work hard to honor him.
