Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Clemencia Resendez and Pablo Gutierrez, Roque graduated from Fox Tech Highschool and proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting in 1962 and serving honorably for three years.
After his military service, Roque began his career as an electrical engineer at Kelly Air Force Base, where he worked for over 30 years until his retirement in 1998. His dedication and strong work ethic left a lasting impact on his colleagues and set an example at home for his children.
In retirement, Roque embraced life’s simple joys-spending time with loved ones, playing golf, and collecting coins. A man of deep faith, he found comfort and strength in reading the Bible and attending Sunday services at Westlawn Baptist Church. He often attended Sunday classes and was an active participant, sharing his own knowledge of the Bible and their scriptures with Psalm 23 -The LORD is my Shepard; I shall not want…, being his favorite.
Roque will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his service to his country and community, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son Roque Gutierrez Jr.; his parents, Clemencia and Pablo Gutierrez; his sister, Alma Gutierrez; and his brothers, Lupe, Pablo, and Robert Gutierrez.
Roque is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Lisa (Enriqueta) Gutierrez; his children, Esperanza (Hopie) and Jesse Martinez, Rocky and Kathryn Gutierrez, Trisha and Miles Power, and Victoria (Becky) and Frankie Covarrubia; his brothers, Alex and Jimmy Gutierrez; his nephew “Chacho”; niece, Alma James; and several grandchildren- JoAnna, BriAnna, Michael, Jesse Jr., Victoria, Veronica, Roque Jr. lll, Jason, Melanie, Kiera, Trinity, Henry, Olivia, Gabby, Kayleigh, Bailey, Roland Jr., and Joshua.
While we are deeply saddened by this great loss, Roque’s legacy of love, faith, and service will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though we mourn his loss, we find comfort in the enduring lessons he taught us, the love he so freely shared, and the cherished memories that will remain with us always.
