Born March 1st, 1949, to Joe and Amelia Gomez in San Antonio Texas, she was the second of four children and eldest of three sisters. Despite challenges faced because of a complicated medical history, she graduated Lanier High School. After graduation she chose to pursue a career as an administrative assistant and stenographer, first at the Bexar County Courthouse and later at Kelly Air Force Base where she worked for over 20 years. It was there that she met and married her husband, Daniel Garnica. She eventually retired and transitioned to a full-time homemaker, meticulously maintaining the family home, aggressively clipping coupons before it was popular, and developing a passion for baking. Her homemade fruit pies are still talked about with pride as recipes pass from one generation to the next. While sometimes a bit of a homebody, faithfully following any number of dramas while crocheting doilies for the dining table, Linda also liked to experience new places. Her favorite places to visit were Hawaii, Mexico, and Las Vegas. One of her greatest achievements is that she was a breast cancer survivor which was especially triumphant given the disease claimed her mother’s life at the age of 66. Her positive prognosis was as much a product of a strong will to survive as it was advances in breast cancer comprehensive care.
Toward the end of her life, she was diagnosed with dementia. This unfortunately was the result of a lifetime of seizures. The disease gradually deprived her of memories and eventually her life. Linda passed away peacefully with her husband Danny by her side.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents Amelia L Gomez and Joe H Gomez, her older brother Jose Angel Gomez, and her youngest sister Yolanda Gomez Amaya; as well as her father-in-law, Cecilio Garnica, and mother-in-law Margie Garnica.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory close. Linda is survived by her husband Daniel Garnica; her sister Anna Maria Gomez; nephew Brian Ramirez; niece Laura Ramirez Czaplewski and spouse Mike and their children, Nathan and Blair Czaplewski; niece Crystal Amaya and spouse Arnold Rodriguez and their children, Michael Amaya and Matthew Rodriguez. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Art, George, and Carlos Garnica; sister-in-law, Alma, Mary Jane, and Debbie Garnica; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to honor Linda’s life at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd., 78237, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, with Visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, February 20, 2025, our doors will open at 8:30 a.m. to go in procession for a 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Jude Catholic Church, 130 S. San Augustine Ave., 78237, followed by burial at San Fernando Cemetery #2.
Linda’s kindness, love, and warmth will forever be remembered by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
