Rosa Alvear Lopez

Born on June 12, 1928, in San Antonio, she was the cherished daughter of Eusebio Alvear and Jesusita Mercado. Growing up in a vibrant home, she learned early on the values of family, hard work, and deep devotion to the Lord. On June 4, 1950, she wed her beloved husband, Pedro Rincon Lopez, beginning a beautiful journey of marriage and shared purpose that lasted until his passing. Together, they enjoyed exploring the world through travel, cultivating beautiful gardens, and building a foundation of love for their growing family.

With her natural talent and industrious spirit, Rosa successfully ran her own baking business, sharing her talents and warmth with the local community. Her hands were rarely still, as she also found great joy in sewing beautiful creations for her loved ones. However, her true life’s work was found in her service to the Lord. As a founding member of Fortress Church, dedicated church secretary at El Sendero, and an esteemed leader, she was widely known as a fierce prayer warrior. One of the greatest blessings of her life was the way she faithfully witnessed for Christ. Through her profound love for the Lord, her powerful testimony, and the grace with which she lived out her faith, she was instrumental in leading many to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

Her legacy of faith, resilience, and unconditional love lives on through her family. She is survived by her sister, Estella Sanchez, and her devoted three daughters, Alma Woods, Veronica Saldana and her husband, Daniel, and Maria (T.C.). Segovia and her husband John. She was the proud grandmother of Grantham Woods, John Thomas (J.T.) Segovia, Matthew Segovia, Philip Atkins, Andrew Atkins and his wife KC, Peter Atkins, Brian Saldana, Jasmine Saldana and Austin Rankin, Megan Drash and her husband Royce, and Nichelle Cunningham. Her joy was further multiplied by her great-grandchildren: Janelle Segovia; Lillian and Ailia Atkins; Madelyn and Lincoln Drash; and Roselynne and Aurora Rankin. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and a community of lifelong friends.

She was reunited in heaven with her parents; her beloved husband, Pedro Rincon Lopez; her siblings, Elvira Alvear, John Paul Alvear, Justo Alvear, Guadalupe Almendarez, Mario Alvear, and Alma De La Cruz; her son-in-law, Frederick P. Woods; and her beloved daughter, Yvonne Lopez Atkins. As well as the many friends gone before her.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Windermere at Westover Hills nursing home and Elysian Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care during her final days. They also wish to send a heartfelt, special thank-you to Nurse Elias Mapupa and Sister Christine Gutierrez for their unwavering support, kindness, and spiritual companionship, which brought immense comfort to her and the family.

Rosa was a true radiant light - a mighty woman of God whose vibrant faith and boundless love reshaped the lives of everyone she met. She poured her whole heart into being a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, leaving behind a rich legacy of laughter, grace, and cherished memories. While we will miss her deeply, we find immense comfort knowing she is rejoicing in glory, and we carry her spirit forward in our hearts.

A visitation will be held at Three:16 Church, 7760 Prue Road, San Antonio, Texas 78249, on August 18, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at the same location on August 18, 2026, at 7:00 pm.

A visitation will take place at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238, on August 19, 2026, from 8:30 am to 9:00 am, with a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery departing from the same location on August 19, 2026, at 9:15 am.

A committal service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter #1, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209, on August 19, 2026, at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Three:16 Church in honor of her lifelong ministry and passion for leading others to Christ.
