Rosie was born on August 6, 1948, to Guadalupe and Rosalia Garcia in Elsa, TX. She was a loving and fiercely loyal supporter of family. Nothing was more important to her. Her parents, her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her siblings, her nieces, her nephews – she held all of them so very close to her heart. And there were a lot of them.
Rosie grew up in a large family with nine siblings. She was third from the youngest, so she grew up navigating respect for her older siblings, extremely close bonds with those closest to her in age and
guiding and advising her two younger sisters. Those relationships formed the pillar of family that she became, and learning to maneuver those types of dynamics served her well her entire life.
She became an expert at reading people and knowing just what to say in any given situation – and always in a positive light. She was the best advice-giver, cheerleader, advocate and confidante. She
was a master storyteller, often making up scary stories to get her kiddos to do (or not do) whatever was at hand. Her youth shaped her incredible sense of humor, which she often said she developed
to “deal with her many siblings.” She was a rare combination of love, loyalty, strength, humor, sass and empathy. She was fierce. Those traits made her the best wife, mom, bonus mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to absolutely everyone who knew her. She was beloved. Admired. Cherished. And she will be missed immensely.
Rosie was also incredibly hard-working, determined and stubborn, which served her incredibly well when she was shockingly diagnosed with stomach cancer just a few months after losing the love of her life. She fought hard to beat it, she kept a positive attitude throughout, she endured chemo and surgery with grit, grace and the aforementioned humor – but, in the end, her body was tired, and her heart was with her soulmate. They are now reunited and once again whole.
It is comforting to know she was welcomed with open arms in Heaven by many family members who loved her dearly. In addition to her parents, Guadalupe and Rosalia Garcia, Rosie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Andres Vasquez, Jr. Brothers: Lupito Garcia, David Garcia, Sr. and Abel Garcia (Delia). Sisters: Mary Carrillo (Ben), Mona Vallejo (Robert), Hopie Flores and Janie Garcia.
Rosie is survived by her children: Andres Vasquez III, John Vasquez (Teri) and Bernabe J Vasquez (Maria Lourdes). Grandchildren: Brandy, Blake, Dominik, Brianna, Dylan, Bailey, Brooklyn, Andres
IV, Elijah. Great Grandchildren: Azaylia, Milo, Loki. Brother: Johnny Garcia (Eva). Sister: Emmie Garcia.
