Obituary of Rose Marie Matelski-Mendoza
IN THE CARE OF

Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home

Rose Marie Matelski-Mendoza, 76, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Laredo, Texas, to Sulema Santos and Raymond Matelski, Rose dedicated her life to caring for others. She earned her nursing license in 1980 and began her career as an LVN surgical tech at Baptist Memorial Hospital. In 2002, she joined the team at Wilford Hall Medical Center, where she worked faithfully as an LVN nurse until the age of 75. Her compassion and dedication touched countless lives throughout her more than 40 years of service in healthcare.

Beyond her career, Rose was known for her creativity and warmth. A gifted and crafty soul, she loved sewing, creating seasonal wreaths, and making special handmade projects for friends. She also loved baking, always happiest when sharing something warm from the oven with family and friends. She found joy in caring for her plants and cherished the companionship of her beloved pet, Pancho.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Sulema Santos and Raymond Matelski; her husband, Ricardo Cortez Mendoza; and her siblings Joan Matelski, Raymond Shelby York, and Raymond Matelski Jr. She is survived by her children, Andrew Matelski and Marissa Espinosa; her grandchildren, Jonathan and Janessa Matelski; her great-grandchildren, Daniella and Jonathan Jr. Matelski; and her siblings, Victoria Short, Fanny Matelski, and Ruan Matelski.

Rose lived a wonderful life of caring and giving. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the joy of knowing her.

A private service will be held by the family.

Flowers or notes of sympathy may be sent to Marissa Espinosa at 210 Zornia Dr, San Antonio, TX 78213.
