

Rosella U. Anderson a resident of The Vista at Blue Skies West passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the age of 99. Rosella was born on January 18, 1921, in Mt. Sterling, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Arthur Nordahl Nelson and Galena Amanda Nelson. Rosella was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Robert S (Andy) Anderson, her parents, three sisters, one brother and one son in law. She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon and Robin, Sharon’s husband Walter, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, one sister and several nieces and nephews.
Rosella grew up in Mt. Sterling, Wisconsin and Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin. She graduated from Soldiers Grove High School in 1938. Her accomplishments in high school included sports and playing in the band.
At a dance in 1938, Rosella was introduced to the trumpet player, Robert S. Anderson. They dated for the next two years. Rosella and Robert (Andy) became engaged Christmas 1940. Rosella and Andy
were married September 14, 1941 in Mt. Sterling.
They were married 67 years until Andy’s death in 2009. In November of 1942, Andy enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He took the Aviation Cadet Exam and began pilot training in April 1943. He received his pilot wings and 2nd Commission in February 1944. While Andy was at assignment at the Pentagon in 1958, Rosella enrolled and graduated from Alexandria Beauty Academy. In 1959, Rosella opened “Rosella’s Beauty Salon” She kept the business for five years while they were stationed at the Pentagon. Assignments in the Air Force took the family from Panama to Texas, to Spain, Italy, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Alabama and back to Texas.
When Andy retired from the Air Force in 1970, Rosella and Andy moved to Arlington, Texas. After another move to East Texas to purchase a Credit Bureau, Rosella and Andy moved to Air Force Village II (Blue Skies West) in 1986.
Rosella became involved in many activities at Blue Skies from Square Dancing, Bell Ringers, Mahjong, Golf, Bible Study and an active board member of the Protestant Church at Blue Skies. Rosella’s love of art continued as she enjoyed painting and displaying her pieces in her home. Not taking up Art till she was in her 60’s, she found her hidden talent. She won many ribbons and trophies for her work.
Rosella and Andy’s assignments took them all over the world. They loved to travel and with Rosella’s talent for interior design, it allowed her to put together a home in a day that looked as if she had lived there for years.
After suffering a stroke in 2014, Rosella moved from her apartment in The Towers at Blue Skies to The Vista at Blue Skies.Rosella passed away peacefully on December 19, 2020.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery A Celebration Memorial Service will be Held at a later date in the Spring at High Flight Chapel Blue Skies West In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Skies High Flight Chapel-new chapel fund.
