It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Rosita Negrete on March 4, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, fearless entrepreneur, and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was born in Mexico on December 11, 1938 to Rosario and Francisco Tovar and moved to America at a young age, carrying with her a spirit of determination that would shape her remarkable life.
Despite having no formal education, she taught herself to read and write, proving that knowledge and success come not only from classrooms but from resilience and ambition. She worked tirelessly to build a life for herself and her family, eventually purchasing a home and making history as the first woman in San Antonio to establish a successful land excavation business. Among her colleagues, she was affectionately known as "The Little Engineer"—a testament to her intelligence, problem-solving skills, and fearless drive in a male-dominated industry.
Above all, Rosita was a mother in every sense of the word. She adored her children and embraced anyone who needed love, guidance, or simply a warm meal and a comforting presence. The last nine years of her life were especially significant as she helped raise her last grandchild, Jax. The love and bond they shared was apparent to all and will continue to live on.
Her big laugh, radiant smile, and boundless generosity filled every room she entered. She was ambitious, brave, and unwavering in her belief that anything was possible with hard work and heart. She loved to cook and work in her garden. She was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and read from her bible and prayed for her family everyday.
Though she has left this world, her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the community she uplifted, and the many lives she touched. Her story is one of courage, perseverance, and love—one that will never be forgotten.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rosario and Francisco; her husband, Juan; and son, JR Negrete. She is survived by her children, Oralia Negrete Lara, Gloria Alicia Garza, Robert Negrete, Rose Negrete Preece, Juan Gerardo Negrete, their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and numerous other loving family members.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025 with a visitation from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E. On March 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM, there will be a Funeral Mass held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8134 Blanco Road.
