Ross Middlebrook Youngs

Ross Middlebrook Youngs was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 6, 1929, son of Arthur Byrd Youngs and Nell Cameron Crain Youngs. He died on March 25, 2014 after a brief illness. He was the nephew of an uncle by the same name who played for New York Giants and was inducted in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.

Ross graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1948 and from Baylor University in 1952 where he attended on a track scholarship. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Louise Caldwell from 1954 until her death in 1981. At the time of his death, he was married to Sue Pazdral Tanner who had been his faithful and loving wife since 1982. Ross was a Texas History teacher and coach for the majority of his career, having taught at Edgar Allen Poe Junior High, Alamo Heights Junior High, West Avenue Middle School, and Ed White Middle School. He worked at the Alamo Heights Swimming Pool for almost thirty years, first as a lifeguard, then a swimming instructor to hundreds of children, and finally as pool manager. He was active in his church life, serving as a deacon at Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church and an elder at Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Besides his parents and first wife, he is also predeceased by his sister, Nell Crain Northway. He is survived by his wife, Sue Youngs, and children: Dale and Mary Youngs (Easley, SC), Ellen and Joel Stolarksi (Bulverde, TX), Jeannette and Louis Droll (San Antonio), Betsy and Clint Gholson (Bulverde, TX), Patti Tanner and Gary Chavez (San Antonio), Jay and Stacy Tanner (Spring Branch, TX), and Bill and Terri Tanner (Houston, TX). He also leaves behind his beloved 21 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 7 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M, Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Rev. Dale Youngs will officiate. A private family interment will follow at Mission Burial South.

Pallbearers are Joel Stolarski, Louis Droll, Clint Gholson, Bill Tanner, Jay Tanner, Ben Droll, Chris Moore and Eddie DeMers.
