Grandpa, I love you so much. Your greatness and integrity as a minister, mentor, husband, father, grandfather, friend, human being are an inspiration to all who have ever met you. As a part of your family I feel like you are mine and mine alone, but I am so comforted to see all the other people whose lives you have changed. As a child I always knew you were special but I never really realized that it was possible for you to be in so many hearts at once. I guess I just didn't understand how someone can give so much of himself to my life and still have the time and energy and desire to continue to give to so many others... I miss you so much, although I know you are in a place now where you always belonged, and with someone you always praised. It's hard for me to think about facing the days ahead without you there in the background, telling me how proud you are and how much you love me. Your love and support were such a blessing to me and continue to bless me every day. I can only hope I made you half as proud of me as I am of you. I love you.

Royce You were a true friend to many young people. My memories are numerous and included melodramas, Maundy Thursdays, the Holy Lands, Europe, the Passion Play, and most significantly being baptized in the River Jordan. Thank you for the significant role that you have played in my life. Also, thank you for singing the Lord's Prayer at our rehersal dinner. That simple act has helped Heidi and I to define the christian life that we try to live. You will be missed. I love you in Christ Jesus. David

We were so sorry to hear of Royce's death. He was a very special friend and pastor to us. We regret that we are unable to attend the service for him but please know that we will be there in spirit. I shall always cherish the memories of our trip to Europe with him. His many talents and gifts shall be missed. We mourn the passing of a wonderful man, a loving husband & father, and a minister whose understanding of Christ's love and compassion was exemplified by his life and service. Royce turned me from a religious cynic to a beleiver by his example and teaching. I miss his grasp of Biblical history that was so embodied in his sermons, as well as his gentle friendship and compassion. 
 May God grant him peace, serenity and a new mission.

Dear Mrs. Makin and Family: 
The San Antonio Community of Churches office informed me today of the Reverend Makin's death. I am current president of SACC and want to extend my sympathies to all of you. I understand that Royce was so very helpful in his ecumenical work here in San Antonio, as well as in his many other involvements in the city. I regret that I cannot attend the funeral on Tuesday because I am attending a continuing education event this week. Please know that you are in my prayers. It is good to celebrate the life of one who has given so much.

Although I don't know the Makin family personally, I felt that I had to tell you how much I thought of Reverend Makin. I only met him one time when he so graciously performed by daughters wedding ceremony. He was the interium minister at Central Christian Church at that time. He was so kind to both she and her husband and made their day that much brighter. I know that he will be missed by many friends, family and everyone whose lives he touched. I am so sorry for your loss.

Royce Makin will always be Mr. Makin to me, since I was a small child, walking down the aisle at the closing of the service. I know he is in a better place, and will remember him fondly.

I have so many wonderful memories of Bro. Makin, but the one that has been with me always was his portrayal of Jesus and the Last Supper at San Antonio Christian Church. He broke bread with a Jewish Rabbi and the congregation, then we ate in silence. Afterwards, he washed everyone's feet and we exited in tears. My spiritual life was changed forever because of Bro. Makin, great is his reward. He made me see Jesus in a different light, one with personality and happiness, joy, forgiveness. I am sure Heaven has a special place in the choir for our beloved Brother.....He will be missed here on earth.

Royce, you will always be my favorite minister.Your encourgement paved the way to my spiritual journey and I will always remember you. My condolences Nita and family,my deepest sympathy to you all . In Christian Love,Fran Hiesser

I was deeply saddened to see the notice of Royce's death in the paper this morning. I was able to visit with him on numerous occasions at Northeast Baptist Hospital, where I was Chaplain until I retired 6 years ago. That is where I first met him. Royce was faithful in visiting members of his church. As you, Royce's family, continue through the painful grief process, know that God's presence will comfort and keep you. Royce is now in the presence of those many Biblical characters he was famous for portraying. And, best of all, he and Jesus are conversing, face to face. God bless you all. Bill Simpson

When I was elected president of the Community of Churches a few years ago, Rev. Royce Makin was a member of the Board of Directors. From the beginning of my term, when Royce wrote and directed a play at the Annual Meeting, to producing and writing the script for Rev. Don Baugh's retirement ceremonies at La Villita - I was in awe of his extraordinary talents. But perhaps the most awesome thing about Royce was his lack of ego and his very supportive nature. He always was more interested in others rather than himself. Those few short years of my working with him, have left me and others with many lovely memories. What a wonderful human being - truly a "man of God"
