Ruben Gonzalez, age 68, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2026. Ruben was a loving father, grandfather, and friend whose humor, generosity, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Ruben was a man who truly enjoyed life. He loved fishing and hunting and proudly displayed his taxidermy collection at home. A collector of guns, rifles, and ARs, Ruben often joked that he was well prepared for any apocalypse. Whether he was out on the water, in the woods, or spending time with family, he was happiest sharing his passions with others.
He also had a love for games and a little bit of luck. Scratch-off lottery tickets were a must at every gas station stop, and he could often be found trying his luck on the Keno machine. Ruben enjoyed playing lotería, dominoes, dice, and poker with family and friends, creating countless memories filled with laughter and friendly competition.
Ruben loved cooking just as much as he loved eating. He was well known among family and friends for his delicious brisket and the big breakfasts he proudly prepared. Gathering everyone together around good food and good conversation was one of the many ways he showed his love.
Known for his outgoing personality and great sense of humor, Ruben never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and loved teaching others how to shoot, fish, play pool, dominoes, poker, and dice. His presence brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable stories to those around him.
Ruben was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Josefina H. Gonzalez, and his children, Claudia Medrano and Ruben Gonzalez Jr.
He is survived by his loving children, Christina Gonzalez, and Erica "Kika" Solis. He was a proud grandfather to Jesse Torres, Pearl Torres, Kasandra Medrano, Victoria Medrano, Miranda Solis, and Joselyn Perez, who will forever cherish the memories and lessons he shared with them.
