It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Ruben Hernandez Jr.'s passing on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Born in San Antonio on January 15, 1975, to Rosalinda M. Avila, Ruben, affectionately known as "Junior" and "Sabu," lived a life defined by love and generosity.
Ruben was a funny, outgoing, and spontaneous man who could brighten any room with his jokes and laughter. A loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, he always enjoyed himself with a cold beer, a charcoal-cooked burger, and his beloved dogs, Larzo and Blackie, whether they won or lost. He was a determined fisherman, a hardworking mechanic and handyman, a loving husband to his first love, Nora Hernandez, a devoted father, a doting grandfather to his two grandsons and a compassionate father-in law.
Ruben's family always came first. He adored his wife and children, and being a father was his greatest joy. He was a best friend to many and a cherished companion. We are all blessed to have known such a kind and loving soul.
Ruben was welcomed into the Kingdom by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his Tio Patrocinio "Pat" Martinez Jr., his brother Sabastian Avila, and his childhood friends Bert Cabrera and Robert Talamantez.
