Ruben received his bachelor's degree from Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia, and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1965 from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.
Ruben's career as an associate Professor of Law spanned over 35 years, and he will be remembered by many of his students for his humor and challenging teaching style.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Lugo; 3 children, Eduardo Lugo and wife Zulma, Michael Lugo and wife Deanna, and Ruben Javier Lugo; 6 grandchildren, Laura Maria Lugo, Gabriel Lugo, Manolo Lugo, Benjamin Lugo, Andrew Lugo, and Matthew Lugo; a great-grandchild, William Lugo; and 4 siblings, Nelson Lugo, Edna Lugo, Hever Lugo, and Evelyn Lugo.
