I was so sad when I heard the news of cousin Ruben's passing. Without hesitation, Ruben would rush over to assist my father (cousin Joe), whenever he called - no matter the timing. For me, this was invaluable as I live in Houston. And I am forever grateful. My love and deepest sympathy to the family.

Well I met Ruben cause of my husband Felix they were in the reserve unit together, he was the funniest person and very nice also . And his wife & I became friends, she also was a friendly person and I know they loved each other so much. We’d go out with them in groups sometimes and they were lots of FUN . May he R.I.P., because I hear he went through a lot but he’s in a better place. And one day we’ll all get to see him again . My memories of my Uncle Ruben will be those of music, laughter, dancing "The Stroll" with him at our family reunion, breakfast in Boerne,  and the stories of he and my dad hanging out as teenagers. I am so glad that I have been blessed with such a beautiful Uncle. My prayers are with my Aunt Oralia, cousins, their spouses, and my aunt and uncles grandchildren. I also pray for the rest of our family. Tio, you are missed greatly but I know you and Dad are going to have a great time. Heaven better get ready!   God bless you all.  Love, Edith

I served with Chief Vasquez in the 404th CLSS at Kelly AFB for a number of years and remember him as a wonderful leader and very knowledgeable aircraft mechanic.   He could always be depended on to get a job done,  and although I’m sure  you missed him on those “reserve weekends” and summer camps, our unit was blessed to have such a capable and well liked senior NCO. I am saddened at the passing of cousin Ruben.  I remember attending Sunday gatherings at my grandmother's house and his Mom, Aunt Pauline and all the grandchildren would surround the house on Euclid with noise a play.  May Ruben rest in peace. My condolences to his wife, his children and especially his sisters Maura Jane and Mary.

From his second couzin Efrain Garza III. I am still numb over the news of uncle Penny. Or Uncle Ruben. He always made my life better. Always made me feel important. Will miss him dearly. God bless his soul and God bless his family. The best San Antonio memories. Adios Tio.

Ruben and I grew up together from the time we were little boys.  Our friendship lasted over the many decades.
