Ruby G. Taylor

She attended Giddings high school befriending Velma Bellows who gave her support and strength as a true friend through life. Ruby graduated from Texas State University in 1941 learning to play bridge, majoring in Business and American History.

She was a teacher, principal, friend, loving aunt, mother, and grandmother. In 1944 she married a young officer in the Army Air Corp, Norman J. Taylor of S.A. She had fallen in love with him at Texas State. They enjoyed going to dances, playing bridge, and dreaming of their future. Norman taught his wife the Texas game of 42.

When Norman was assigned to the Pentagon as a courier to Truman's White House and the newly formed U.N., she had the privilege of playing bridge with Pat Nixon. The family returned to San Antonio after the Korean conflict. She was asked by Mr. McCollum to teach at Harlandale in 1957.

In later years she taught at John Marshall High School until 1975. She was a long time member of Coker UMC, treasurer of Retired Teachers, member of Coker UMC women's society, and enjoyed several bridge groups.

Ruby is survived by her son, Norman Taylor; daughter, Barbara McPherson & husband Glenn of S.A., TX; grandchildren, Ryan McPherson & wife Lauren of New Braunfels, TX, Heather Dungan & husband Matthew of Austin, TX and many loving relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank all caregivers who were kind and respectful to Ruby, and Coker ladies who made her a prayer shawl that kept her body and heart warm.
