

He attended public schools and Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, Southern Arizona School in Tucson, Arizona; and Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, Class of 1941. Rupert graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Latin American Studies, Class of 1945, and the Harvard School of Business with an M.B.A., Class of 1949.
He served with the Army of the United States from 1943 to 1946 in the Infantry Field Artillery and, lastly, as an enlisted instructor in the Ordinance School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
His business career consisted of serving as executive trainee, buyer and staff assistant to the President of Joske's, Texas department store from 1949 to 1955; administrative assistant to the President, San Antonio Drug Company from 1956 to 1965; and finally, as a lending officer at Frost National Bank from 1966 to 1993, retiring as a Senior Vice-President, Commercial Loans.
Civic and environmental activities included serving on boards of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), and the Guadalupe Chapter of Trout Unlimited of which he was a founding member. Club memberships included the San Antonio Country Club, The Argyle, and the social organizations: Order of the Alamo, San Antonio German Club and the Texas Cavaliers.
He was an avid bird hunter and fly fisherman, with his interest in the latter taking him every year to the western United States, Alaska, the Bahamas, and exotic places like Tahiti, Christmas Island, and Argentina. He also spent many weekends fly fishing for redfish on the flats of Port Aransas with family and friends.
He never married. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan Gresham Davidge, and is survived by her three daughters and their families: Susan Crudgington of Washington, D.C., Olivia Crudgington of Sausalito, California, and Keith Crudgington of Eugene, Oregon and their families; his first cousin and fishing companion Joan Negley Kelleher, his first cousin Carolyn Griffin of Georgetown, Texas; his first cousin once-removed, Laura Negley Gill and his sometimes hunting and fishing cousin, Richard Burleson Negley.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Karel Hoffman and all his loving caregivers who gave so much in their care of Rupert.

Box 1600, San Antonio, Texas 78296, or to the Guadalupe River Chapter of Trout Unlimited (GRTU), P.O. Box 160564, Austin, Texas 78716-0564, or any other institution of one's choice. Rupert established the Charitable Trust in honor of his father, who was a prominent San Antonio attorney and President of the State Bar of Texas in 1955, and his mother, who was the daughter of an early south Texas ranching family.
