condition on Tuesday, August 4th, 2020 in San Antonio, at Methodist Texsan Hospital. He was
born December 14th, 1955, in Dodge City, Kansas to Ralph R. and Arzella M. (Thompson)
Ferguson. He served in the Army for a short time and was honorably discharged due to his
heart condition.
Russell was interested as a young teenager in auto mechanics, he could repair or fix any
issues on nearly any engine. He continued that work until his death. He was sought after by
his customers knowing he was a trusted technician. Russell was also looked up to as a teacher
and a mentor for younger technicians seeking a career in the auto industry. His teaching
methods were in a way that he provided life lessons about mistakes being made. He was often
quoted by his apprentices “Your job is to make mistakes, and my job is to fix them”. That legacy
will continue on with his apprentices, as they will pass down his wisdom to the next generation
and they continue to teach others, and so forth. His passion for creating his own protege was
accomplished, and will continue on preceding his death.
He was brought up going to church and later in life accepted the Lord as his personal savior.
He grew up being called Rusty unless he was being ornery then his full name was heard. He
enjoyed vacations with his family going to Colorado, Idaho, Vermont and usually taking the
family pet whom he adored. He would leave his home state of Kansas and move to Colorado
during his 20’s where he began his career working for Nissan. From Colorado he moved to
Texas in 1985 where he resided until his death.
It was in Texas he met the love of his life, Karen Budd, and her young children, where
they became a family and enjoyed life. They would go to the beach and spend hours enjoying
the outdoors. Russell particularly was good at barbecuing various meats. Russell’s dad craved his
son’s BBQ often saying “let’s go to Texas and see Russ.” Russell enjoyed working in his
shop where many projects were built and cars rebuilt. There were numerous family gatherings
celebrating holidays and life’s accomplishments. He will be missed by all his loved ones and
remembered as a hard worker.
