

Ruth grew up in Corpus Christi where she graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in 1936. She continued her education in San Antonio at Santa Rosa School of Nursing at Incarnate Word University graduating in 1939 as a Registered Nurse.
While completing her nurses training at Santa Rosa Hospital, she met and cared for Buck, a patient that would become her husband of 30 years.
During WWII, Ruth joined the Army to care for wounded soldiers that were being sent to San Antonio. After serving as a 2nd Lt, Army Specialty Nurse for one year, she married John D. "Buck" Golson in 1942. Her nursing career continued in the early 1960's in area hospitals and the Bexar County Health Department. Ruth retired from the San Antonio Independent School District after serving as a school nurse for 17 years.
After retirement, Ruth spent years volunteering her nursing skills for the benefit of public health as well as many years with the American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Pruitt and her husband, Al of Floresville, TX, and Vickie Monfelt and husband, Randy of Sunrise Beach, TX; grandchildren, Tammie Fellows and husband, Matt; Eric Portis and wife Heather, Shane Emerson and wife, Jamie; great-grandchildren, Clyde Fellows and wife Nichole, Krisha Fellows, Kaitlyn Emerson and Garrett Portis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth Golson was laid to rest on Saturday, September 26, 2009 following a Mass at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in San Antonio.
