Ruth W. Jenks, beloved wife and mother entered into rest on May 30, 2012. Born shortly after the turn of the century in a small town in Oklahoma, she started working during the oil boom there. She was an administrative assistant at various oil companies during her career. No sooner had Ruth and her husband, Ben, came through the depression, then WWII began. After the war ended, they settled in Texas and lived in San Antonio, thereafter. She had a lifelong interest in plants which she pursued over many years in garden club activities. Once retired, Ruth became widely known as president of the San Antonio Garden Center, one of the outstanding women of the year for the Express-News, and honored at the State Fair as Texas Garden Club member of the year in 1982.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Jenks. Memorials may be sent to the San Antonio Garden Center. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
